What is malnutrition? asked Nurse Zahara. Malnutrition is a condition that occurs when the body doesn't get the right amount of nutrients. This can lead to Undernutrition, which is not getting enough nutrients. This includes deficiencies in calories, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Overnutrition, which is getting more nutrients than the body needs, often leads to overweight and obesity.

To effectively combat malnutrition, a multifaceted strategy is needed, including advocating for healthy diets, limiting unhealthy food options, promoting regular meal consumption, healthy snacking, adequate calorie and water intake, targeting interventions like micronutrient supplements and food fortification, community-based initiatives like nutrition education, breastfeeding support, growth monitoring, and school feeding programs, improving water, sanitation, hygiene, food security, and poverty reduction efforts, and implementing national policies, social protection programs, cross-sector collaboration, and ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
