In Act 2, Scene 1 of The Taming of the Shrew, my visual storyboard emphasizes the power struggle between Katherine and Petruchio as it highlights the theme of control within marriage. This is shown through my storyboard choices such as body language and symbolic visual elements. Katherine is drawn with sharp movements and tense posture to reflect her anger and resistance to social expectations, while Petruchio remains relaxed, confident, and brightly dressed to represent male authority in Elizabethan society. For example, when Katherine is insulting Petruchio, he is shown smirking and standing still confident, which emphasizes how he tries to dominate her by controlling the narrative rather than responding emotionally. The difference in the two character's facial expressions represent the difference between Katherine’s true emotions and how Petruchio describes her to others. These choices reflect Shakespeare’s use of comedy and irony to criticize strict gender roles and show how outspoken women were viewed as problematic in a patriarchal society. I also created the characters using realistic clothing and setting to what they would have worn during Shakespeare's time period.
