- Tensions were very high between the Texans and the Mexican government, and a revolution began. During the 1836 Battle of the Alamo, hundreds of Texans died trying to defend their freedom.

- Although Texas declared their independence in 1836, they were not admitted into statehood until December 29, 1845.

- Mexican-American War
- Mexico was not happy that Texas was declared a state, and the Mexican-American War broke out. The war lasted about a year and a half, and ended with a U.S. victory in 1848.
