On a Sunday morning, the community of people in a small town in New England are shocked when they see the minister with his eyes and nose covered up.
Climax
Exposition
The minister's covering brings out horror from each person at church. They start to think that he can see their deepest secrets and lies when he gives a sermon on secret sin. His covering proceeds to frighten a wedding and funeral
Main Conflict
Falling Action
People are talking about his covering all around the town but no one has the courage to ask him about it. Except his fiance, who tries to get him to remove it but can't persuade him so she leaves him. And then he proceeds to wear it for many more years which becomes a comfort for those dying helping them believe that he can understand their sins
Resolution
Rising Action
He continues to serve until he is about to die from old age. Elizabeth returns to him as well as him Mr. Clark who also tries to get him to remove the covering but he grabs it tightly and begins to tell everyone that their faces have black veils.
The people in the room are frightened while the minster falls back with a smile on his face.
The minister is buried with the veil still on his face
