  • In 1500 BC, was when the wedding of Peleus and Thetis took place. Eris (the sister of Ares) was the last person the Olympians wanted to see so she was clearly not invited to the wedding. This obviously made her sad because if not invited to a wedding, you weren't considered as important.
  • She managed to overcome these feelings by concocting a devious plan, taking place while the wedding was well underway. She threw them a golden apple, inscribed with the words 'for the fairest' on it. Being their selfish selves, Hera, Athena and Aphrodite immediatly put their names in the running without considering the fact this offering was inline for the bride.
  • They had very little patience, so they quickly turned to Zeus (a Greek God) to resolve this matter. In being appointed this role, he decided that it would be in his best interest to be an observer because in choosing someone the others would sooner want to get their revenge on him. So he sent his son, Hermes to lead these women to the Paris, the young Prince of Troy who he established the judge of this contest.
  • Each goddess had a bribe to convince Paris they were the fairest. Hera (in the middle of the 3 girls) offered him the pleasure of ruling Europe and Asia, in taking this offer he would've built the largest empire in the world. Next was Athena (to the left of Hera), who promised him victory over the Greek army and total conquest of the Trojan's enemies. Finally, Aphrodite (to the right of Hera) realised that Paris was only a young boy, so he wouldn't really care about world domination, so she promised him the most beautiful women in the world, Helen (wife of Menelaus, the king of Sparta).
  • In her offer, Paris chose Aphrodite to be the fairest. He immediately handed her the golden apple in return for Helen.
  • He then captured Helen and took her back to the city of Troy.
