Tom Longboat was born in the Ohsweken in July 4th 1886. He had 2 Siblings one older sister named Lucy and the other little brother named Simon. His Father died when he was 5 years old leading his Mom to raise them.

From now on, you must wear clothes like the Europeans. You are not allowed to speak your own language. You can't follow your traditional beliefs anymore. You have to follow Christianity instead.
No!!! I absolutely hate it here!!!!
When Tom was 12 years old he was forced to get torned apart from his family and go to residental school. He wasn't able to practice his beliefs, believe in christanity and wasn't allowed to speak his own native langauge. Not only that the food tasted horrible and emotional, sexual and physcial was common at that school. In the end he ran away and lived with his uncle.

After Tom Longboat escaped the residential school, he began training by running near dirt roads and trails near him. He practiced doing long distances runs around the town. At first he ran to be happy, free and strong but he soon realized that that this could be his way of life.
