Storyboard Text

  • And finally book has a dark and sinister tone for the most part. The way Layla describes the guards being mixed with how gloomy and horrible her surroundings are something horrible yet effective to really show the readers how everything is through Layla's eyes. A truly terrifying like she now has to live because of the public's general perception of her and her people. To the point at the end her boyfriend ended up dying from taking a bullet for her, knowing shes the won who caused this changed and would die for her to continue it.
  • The plot of the book Internment is about a young woman named Layla Armin. She's a young Muslim girl who's life has been turned upside down ever since a racist took over office as president, putting a strict restrictive ban on all Muslims. Eventually, as the book progresses, her family is sent to a "relocation camp"to keep Muslims, since the public fears them. With her boyfriend on the outside and a alliance with a camp guard who doesn't like what is going on as well. So they lead a camp uprising for change in the world to get rid of America's Islamophobic laws.
  • The books style is more so in a analytical point of view. And even something like multi-perspective writing being used with the most prominent character that its used on being Layla. Showing her thoughts and feelings throughout the entire book. Making her emotional, but in the way it doesn't feel repetitive or unrealistic. And the book is analytical in the way that it shows how scary being trapped and repressed by many really is. Especially because throughout the book many characters die. And truly for some how hard it is to find freedom in their situation.
  • The genre of Interment is dystopian fiction. This can be easily shown when in the book it shows a future in where Muslims are heavily oppressed to the point they even have a strict curfew and near the end of the book, can get shot and die in the camp just for not following one simple rule. This all culminates in the end of the book being a massive camp uprising. Where many die just to seek the freedom their people so desperately deserve.
  • All of this goes back to what we first talked about with Coretta Scott King and her uprising with things like the Montgomery Boycott. The book I read had a uprising in a way also with many repercussions just like the boycott had. With people being oppressed and disrespected and they rioted because they had enough of it.
  • Also the themes of both of these events are very similar in the way they had near the same in ways. for example the boycott had different ethnicity's wanting to ride the bus fairly like everyone else. Meanwhile in Interment the story had Muslims making a upbringing in their relocation camp because of them being oppressed and wanting to be treated like everyone else.
