Storyboard Text

  • This is a double helix! This is known as the shape of DNA.  A DNA molecule is made up of two linked strands that wind around each other, creating the shape of a twisted latter.
  • This relates to all the other structures I am about to talk about, because it is the shape of DNA, which is made up of the next parts that I will mention.
  •  This is a molecule consisting of a nitrogen-containing base (Adenine, Guanine, Thymine, or Cytosine), a phosphate group, and a sugar (deoxyribose).
  • This right here is a nucleotide! This is the basic building block of nucleic acids, like RNA or DNA.
  • This relates a lot to DNA and its double helix shape, since it is what makes it up!
  • This is a very small part of the DNA molcule, known as covalent and hydrogen bonds. These form the structure of the DNA molecules!
  • Did you know that the backbone of a double helix is connected by covalent bonds, while the bases are connected by hydrogen bonds?
  • This is known as the 5' and 3'. This refers to the number of carbon atoms in a deoxyribose sugar molecule to which a phosphate group bonds, which relates to the nucleotides since that is where the phosphate group and sugars are!
  • What you see here are nitrogen bases called purines. There are also pyrimidines, but we will see that later!
  • There are two purines, which are Adenine (A) and Guanine (G), and they are bases that attach to the deoxyribose sugar, and are doubled ring.
  • These relate to the DNA structure and the nucloetides because they are part of the building blocks of DNA!
  • There are two, which are: Cytosine (C) and Thymine (T).
  • As said before, these are pyrmidines, which are the nitrogen bases of one ring, and attach to the deoxyribose sugar. These relate and function the same as purines!
