  • Skluzavka: 1
  • Starting college is a huge step. I’m looking at a few colleges, and Mizzou caught my eye. I’ve been digging into what dorm life’s really like there—how where you live can shape your whole experience. Mizzou offers all kinds of housing, but I’m trying to figure out if the price matches what you get. Things like privacy, space, community, even water quality and getting around campus—it all adds up when you're deciding where to live.

  • First lets look at the housing prices....

  • When looking at prices I can already tell that Mizzou housing cost are slightly higher compared to other schools around Columbia. A suite-style dorm can be as much as $13,500 a year, while cheaper options like community-style dorms are closer to $9,000—and triple rooms average about $7,415 (“University of Missouri Housing Rates”). When I compare these prices to other colleges such as Stephens College, where rooms can be as low as $4,800 a year depending on the style—and they even allow pets, which is a bonus (“Stephen’s College Room Rates”). I also compared it to Columbia college which is about $9,000 a year too. And outside of Columbia, Missouri State has housing starting around $3,700 per semester.

  • One thing that I did not expect to look at was the water quality in college dorms. At Mizzou, they say the Environmental Health Safety team follows EPA rules and keeps the dorm water within safe limits, which is good to hear (“Environmental Health Safety”). Still, I have seen students comment on bad taste all the way to temperature. When something as basic as water feels off, it can totally change how comfortable you feel living there.

  • One of my biggest must haves is transportation. At Mizzou, most people who live in the dorms just walk or bike because everything’s close, within a 20 minute walk. When it comes to driving places off campus I will need a place to park my car and if you have a car, you need a permit and other than that most parking spots are always taken. Permits are expensive, lots fill up fast, and it can be a total hassle.

  • Hi there, I am a high school senior looking into going to Mizzou. After evaluating your residential life I have noticed some things that could be improved such as improving pricing, transportation and water quality. Housing prices seem a lot higher than other colleges in the same area when it comes to residential life. Mizzou could explore rent subsidies or team up with local landlords to offer more affordable options (“University of Missouri Housing Rates”; “Housing Cloud”). Also, water quality matters more than people think. Even though Mizzou follows EPA rules (“Environmental Health Safety”), students mention taste and temperature issues, some quick fixes might be clearer communication or regular updates. When it comes to transportation better parking options or bike infrastructure would also make campus life easier for everyone as well as cheaper parking passes. Thanks for reading, I really love what Mizzou offers and just wanted to share a few ideas from a student’s point of view!
