The Allied and Central Powers were the two sides of WW1. Many Empires of the Central Powers got demolished, causing outturns that reflected across to WW2. The fall of the Ottoman Empire created new territories in Southwest Asia.

The Ottoman Empire joined forces with the Central Powers at the beginning of the war. When the Central Powers lost. The Ottoman Empire split into smaller countries. According to the San Remo Agreement, the remaining provinces went to France and The United Kingdom.

What made Iraq
When the Ottomans ruled, modern Iraq did not exist. It was called Mesopotamia. After the war, Iraq was divided into three provinces (Kurdish Mosul, Sunni Baghdad, and Shia Basra.) The British grouped up different Ethnic and Religious groups into one political unit.
The conflicts of newly founded Iraq
The people of newly founded Iraq did not follow the same beliefs. The countries established by the Europeans were found unstable. Many territories fell into war and dictatorship.

Independence of Iraq
In 1920 Iraq was proclaimed a League of Nations mandate under the U.K. authority. Over the next 12 years, Iraq finally accomplished its independence as a kingdom in 1932. Emir Faisal ibn Hussian was named King of Iraq. A republic got announced in 1958, but in reality, a series of strongmen ruled Iraq until 2003. The last was Saddam Hussian from 1979 to 2003.
