- The scene in the opening acts of Othello, he, Desdemona, and her father Brabantio visit the duke to resolve a conflict. Brabantio shows great disregard for Othello, declaring him unfit of his daughter, Desdemona, taking the matter to the duke. However, the Duke takes the side of the lovers, defending Othello despite his race and background, saying he is virtuous and a great general. This is similar to the modern day marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markel. They too, experienced a difference in class, just like Othello and Desdemona, and are working on overcoming societal expectations. The two couples, in their own ways, embody "star-crossed lovers", where fate seemed to both tear them apart but also bring them together. Additionally, both pairs struggle to win the full approval of their respective families, and their actions may sometimes lead to fallout between them and their loved ones. In summary, the familial tensions and societal pressure demonstrated in Act 1 Scene 3 in Othello can also be found in Harry and Meghan's relationship. In both marriages, the participants offer love and support to one another, working together through the difficulties in their relationship (at least at the beginning)
