Storyboard Text

  • Bob has come to San Francisco, and he wants to know how tall the Golden Gate Bridge is. He gains the measurements of distance and degree length.
  • Bob uses trigonometry to find out how far he is from the base of the golden gate bridge. sin25 = 746/x, x=1767 ft. Bob is 1767 feet away from the bridge.
  • Bob knows that the top of the golden gate brigde is 746 feet and the angle of depression is 25 degrees.
  • 25 degrees
  • 746 ft
  • Bob has come to London, and he wants to know how tall the Big Ben is. He gains the measurements of distance and degree length.
  • Bob knows that he is 443 ft away from the Big Ben and the top of the Big Ben is 45 degrees.
  • Bob uses trigonometry to find out that sin 45 = x/443, x=315. He is happy that high school math topics are helping him in real life.
  • 45 degrees
  • 443 ft
  • Bob is now in Paris, and really wants to know the height of the majestic Eiffel Tower. Bob collects the measurements in order to find the height using trig.
  • Bob finds that he is at a 65 degree angle and is 1320 feet away from the eiffiel tower, but now he wants to find the length from his feet to the tip as well as the height.
  • 65 degrees
  • 1320
  • If the distance from Bob's feet to the base of the Eiffel tower then to find the distance from his feet to the top would be cos65 = 1320/x, x=3127 ft for the distance from Bob's feet to the tip of the Eiffel tower. Now for the height of the Eiffel tower Bob uses the expression sin65=x/1320, x = about 1100 ft as the height of the Eiffel tower. Bob's adventures are over, but his knowledge of trig is still prominent as ever.
