- In 1764-1765, the British Government passed the Sugar and Stamp Acts. Both of which caused massive amounts of protests in the Thirteen Colonies. They would often rebel as well, leading Officials to get tarred and feathered.

- As protests and resistance grew, British troops were stationed throughout the Thirteen Colonies. Some of these soldiers misunderstood the order and fired their muskets into a mob of protesters in Boston. The Boston Massacre had been turned into anti-British propaganda.

- In Boston 1773, a group of patriots known as the Sons of Liberty boarded a boat dressed as First Nations Mohawks. They destroyed a fortune of Britain's tea supply by throwing it into the harbour. This became known as the Boston Tea Party

- All of these events culminated when British and American soldiers faced each other on Lexington Green, Massachusetts in 1775. The British commander told the Americans to leave.

- The situation was very tense. During the standoff, a shot was fired, presumably by an American. This shot heard round the world caused the British line to open fire on the Americans. This drove many of them away while others had been injured or killed.

- Most American colonists saw the battle at Lexington as a major event where there was no turning back. The Continental Army, led by George Washington, was able to hold its own against the British, who had a giant army at the time.

- The American Revolution was still missing a clear goal. Delegates of the Continental Congress discussed what their opinions were on the matter. Many thought that they did not want to completely break ties with England, while others thought that complete independence was the only option.

- The Declaration of Independence
- The Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776 by all 56 members of the continental congress. The war soon ended after the declaration was signed. The Declaration continues to be one of the most important documents in all of history.
