Storyboard Text

  • The Catholic Social Teaching principle of the Call to Family, Community, and Participation teaches that humans are created to live in relationships, beginning with the family and extending into society. Families form the foundation where people learn love, responsibility, and cooperation, which later shape how they participate in communities and nations. Society should always serve the dignity and well-being of every person because people cannot flourish alone. As the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church explains, “A society that wishes and intends to remain at the service of the human being… has the common good—the good of all people and of the whole person—as its primary goal… The human person cannot find fulfillment in himself… apart from the fact that he exists ‘with’ others and ‘for’ others” (Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church, 165). Participation in society means contributing to justice, helping others, and respecting every human person. In addition, the Compendium reminds believers that social relationships must be rooted in love because “Only love is capable of radically transforming the relationships that men maintain among themselves” (Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church, 4). Therefore, families and communities must work together so every person can participate and grow with dignity.
