- The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal statute that guarantees students with disabilities access to a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE).
- So you're saying, a law had to be created to force people to treat children with disabilities fair?
- Prior to 1975, more than four million children with special needs in the United States did not have access to a proper public education. Many public schools denied these children an education altogether, while other schools segregated them from their peers without providing them with support for their special needs. (Harmon, 2022).

- The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) provides several significant benefits. Such as Legal Protections, Early Intervention Services, Inclusive Education, and Individualized Education Programs.
- People should have empathy, patiences, kindness and understanding when dealing with children with special needs. A law should not have had to be made.
