- Julius Caesar was a brilliant general. Caesar was not just a beloved general with a powerful experienced army. He shared fully in the hardships of war. He was also a politician.
- The commoners liked that he wanted to take power from the senate and the upper class and give more power to the ordinary citizens.
- They thought he was greedy and ambitious and would take power as king. The Romans despised this idea.
- No one individual could have too much power and people who held offices should be up for regular reelection.
- Ceaser thought the republic needed to change with the times. And get strong leadership.
- The problem was that the senate wanted ceaser to disband his army and stand trial. Instead he ignored them and marched his army into rome.
