Braylen Coleman Fever 1793

Fever 1793 is a story about a young girl trying to survive during the time of a deadly sickness. My favorite part is when robbers break into the coffeehouse. Before this happened Mattie and Grandfather had just gotten back home from a long adventure, they were struggling and were trying to get back from Bush Hill but they eventually made it. When they got back Mattie worked hard to find food for both her and Grandfather. After that, they decide to go to sleep. Mattie told Grandfather to go ahead and sleep upstairs and that she would sleep downstairs. When they were asleep robbers broke into the house and were looking at Grandfather's things. Mattie tried staying quiet and went into a corner so they wouldn’t know she was there. The robbers were playing around with Grandfather’s sword and almost hit Mattie with it. Mattie screamed and she got caught. She tried running away but one of them caught her. Just then, Grandfather walked in with a rifle in his hand and told them to leave Mattie alone or he will shoot them. The robbers didn’t listen because they wouldn’t believe Grandfather would shoot them. After all, he was too old. Then, One of them got onto Grandfather and choked him. Grandfather was too weak to fight back, Mattie got mad and took the sword and swung it to cut the robber's shoulder. The robber yelled in pain and ran out of the house. Finally, Mattie lay by Grandfather until he eventually passed away. This scene is important to the story because big changes have been made. Mattie would change forever and probably never be the same as she was at the story's beginning.
