  • The Great Chcago Fire
  • Great Fire of Moscow
  • Great Fire of London
  • The fire was in 1871 on October 8 and it was a very dry day. The fire lasted for 2 days before heavy rain helped it. The fire had destroyed an area of 4 mi. and 1 mi. long. A lot of bodies were not found that day. The official dead count was 125. About 18.000 buildings were destroyed. The fire was caused by a cow hitting a lamp off a counter. Some say it is not true.
  • The fire started on Augest 16, 1812 the fire destroyed 122 of Moscow's 329 churches. The Russians defeated Napoleon but had sacrificed their city. By the time Napoleon's army reached safety in November, only 100,000 of the original 615,000 soldiers were alive. Too weak to escape the city, 20,000 of Napoleon's wounded soldiers died. After that, Napoleon's soldiers began to starve in the empty city and he ordered to retreat to France. He was defeated.
  • On the night of September 2, a fire broke out in a London bakery. The Mayor of London, Sir Thomas Bloodworth, did not think the fire was serious enough and delayed pulling down housing. Only 4 people are reported to have died, but it is probable that many more people died than was reported.
