This scene begins with Lady Capulet searching for her daughter, Juliet. She asks the nurse to find Julliet. Lady Capulet wants to talk to Juliet about marriage and asks the nurse to stay and listen since she knows Julliet’s true age.
The nurse talks about her memories of when Julliet was a little girl. This agitates Lady Capulet and she tells the nurse to stop talking. Juliet tells her mother getting married is an honor but not one she dreams of.
I’ll look at him and try to like him, at least if what I see is likable.”
Lady Capulet tells Juliet to start thinking about marriage because girls younger than her get married in Verona(the town they live in). She also tells Juliet that at her age she was pregnant with her. Then She tells Julliet that man named Paris wants her hand in marriage.
The nurse tries to hype Paris up by talking about how “perfect”, handsome, and rich Paris is. They also talk about the riches Julliet could inherit from being married to him. Lady Capulet cuts in to say that Juliet will meet Paris at the Capulet party and that she should judge and watch him to see that he is the one for her.
Lady Capulet and the nurse really seem to be trying to force the idea of marrying Paris on Julliet but she doesn’t seem to be interested in the marriage. Peter(a servant) arrives to say that the party has begun and everyone goes to the party.
