  • Tim O´Brien was talking to his fellow solider Mitchell Sanders about a tragic sequence of events that had recently happened, and Sanders proceeds to tell him about a story supposedly so unbelievable that he wouldn't ever would have thought it was true. Yet he claims its 100% true.
  • Sanders begins telling the story... A group of soldiers went up to the mountains on a listening-post operation. Their job was to stay up there for a week, just to lie low and listen for anything that could sound suspicious. They kept a radio on them so that if they heard anything they could radio to call for backup. No speaking, Only listening to the jungle noise,
  • After a couple of days of the guys being in the mountains, they start hearing music, and weird echos. They tried to ignore it, but the chimes, strings and xylophones got louder and louder. The soldiers started becoming nervous. The longer they waited the more they heard. They heard cocktails, music, chitchat, and champagne corks? In the middle of a forest high up in the mountains.
  • The Men lose their minds, and decided to radio and report enemy movement. They order The whole army, and all the fire power they had. All night long they blew up the silent mountain until there was nothing left.
  • Morning finally arises and the soldiers are there in the nothing forest. Absolutely nothing but pure vapor. Not a single sound in that entire forest, but the men somehow still hear the symphonies. They head back to the base camp. They don't say anything, not a single word. Almost as if they were deaf. Even when the colonel comes and asks what happened up in the mountains. They spent over six trillion dollars of firepower on nothing.
  • Mitchell Sanders finished telling the unbelievable story to Tim. He wanted Tim to believe in his story so badly, getting frustrated when he missed details or parts in the story, trying to make it more believable. Later the next day Sanders went up to Tim and said he had a confession to make. He said that the story wasn't as true as he would have liked. He admitted he had to make up some things, but even still most was true.
