Oh no! This must be the Red Scare I've heard so much about.
The Red Scare was a time of great fear for many Americans as shown in this scene. Many immigrants feared that they would get arrested because they would be falsely accused to be a communist. Tommy overhears this conversation between two people over their fear about the Red Scare.

Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were placed on trial for a robbery and a murder. They were later found guilty and sentenced to death. The verdict on Sacco and Vanzetti was made with insufficient evidence and it represented the anti immigration feelings in America. This scene with Tommy represents the court room of the Sacco and Vanzetti trial.

The 1920's was a golden age for jazz music and pop culture. In this scene Tommy visits a jazz club where people dance, listen to music, and have fun.
