- In 1833, Frederick Douglass was a slave on Covey's, his master’s, Farm. Covey was a cruel master who beat his slaves, including Douglass, often
- Climax
- DO NOT TELL ME WHAT TO DO!
- DON'T EVER TRY TO ESCAPE AGAIN!
- Douglass and the other slaves always worked very hard. One day, Douglass collapsed whilst working on the farm. Instead of helping Douglass, Covey began to beat Douglass hard, yelling at him to get up
- Resolution
- I will no longer whip you
- Douglass decided to run away after what had happened on the farm. Taking Sandy Jenkins advice, Douglass takes a special root
- Secret Root
- However, Douglass soon returns back to the farm. Covey attacks Douglass but instead of letting this happen Douglass fought back against Covey
- Douglass won the fight against Covey, who never whipped Douglass again afterwards
