- The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand happened on June 28, 1914. The person who assassinated him was Gavrilo Princip. This caused World War 1.
- The sinking of the Lusitania happened on May 7, 1915. It happened less than a year after World War 1. It sank because a German U-boat hit it. More than 120 Americans died on the ship. The sinking of the Lusitania played a significant role in turning public opinion against Germany.
- Great Britain intercepts a telegram from Germany telling Mexico that if they declared war on the United States than Mexico would receive Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.
