Before Edmund Halley's discovery about the short period comet of ice and dust that happens to orbit around the sun every 75-76 years, for 1700 years people used to think that comets were disastrous form of chaos, or a warning of supernatural cause. The comets used to freak people out. For example, a comet occurred in 12 BC, and then was interpreted by the Romans as an omen of death.

Edmund's Prediction's True!

In 1705 Edmund Halley's work,"Synopsis of the Astronomy of Comets," Halley suggested that the comets of, 1531, 1607, and 1682 were all purposed events. He then came to a prediction that the comet, "Halley's Comet." would return in 1758. People were skeptical, but disbelief was a more known feeling to the public about his conclusions. After his Edmund's death, a comet reappeared, on December 25, 1758 a German farmer and amateur astronomer named, Johann Georg Palitzsch, saw the sighting of the comet, 76 years later after the last sighting.
