  • Act 4 Scene 1
  • Take this potion, Juliet, this potion will make you seem dead to everyone for 42 hours.
  • Friar, I'll take whatever you give me, I don't want to marry Paris.
  • Act 4 Scene 2
  • Oh how delightful! We should move the wedding for tomorrow then.
  • Father, I'm sorry for disobeying you and I've decided, I want to marry Paris.
  • Act 4 Scene 3
  • Should I drink this potion and risk actual death?
  • Juliet threatens to kill herself if the Friar can not help her. So the Friar devises a plan where Juliet will take a potion that will make her appear dead, so he gives Juliet a potion that will see as if she has died, but the affects only work for 42 hours. Juliet needs to make herself seem dead for her family so that she doesn't marry Paris. She's already married to Romeo, who is banished from Verona, and would rather risk death than to marry someone else.
  • Act 4 Scene 4
  • I won't be getting sleep tonight, I need to make sure everything is prepared.
  • It's important to get some sleep for tomorrow.
  • Juliet returns to the family home and begs forgiveness from her father saying that she is sorry for disobeying him earlier and that she does want to marry Paris. Load Capulet is delighted and overjoyed and has moved the date of the wedding to the very next day. While someone else is delivering a letter telling Romeo when to meet Juliet at the grave, they are unaware of this new change and now Juliet will have to drink the potion earlier than planned.
  • Act 4 Scene 5
  • My only daughter, my poor daughter is dead!
  • Oh, my Juliet, why have you been taken away the night before your wedding!
  • Stop it, Juliet is in a better place now, in Heaven with God!
  • She worries that maybe the Friar has given her poison so his marrying her to Romeo won’t be discovered, and she is starting to think about the possible all of the outcomes that could come out of drinking the potion, but she takes the potion anyway and immediately appears dead.
  • Act 4 Scene 5
  • Everything that was prepared for the wedding should now be for her funeral...
  • Load and Lady Capulet, the Nurse, and the servant are busily preparing the necessary things for Juliet's and Paris' wedding that is planned for the next day. And this is allowing time for Juliet's potion affect to work while they are still believing that she is fast asleep, awaiting the next day.
  • The Nurse discovers Juliet dead in her bedroom and everyone comes up to mourn for her, but the Friar tells them not to cry and to be happy that she is in a better place now. They all think Juliet is dead, and the potion affect will go away soon and she'll wake up.
  • Lord Capulet says everything that was made ready for the wedding should now be for her funeral and her body is then taken to the Capulet family tomb.
