- Esperanza and Mam wait for the Immigrant official to approve their papers.
- Esperanza, Mama, Hortencia, Alfonso, and Miguel take the train ride towards Los Angeles, California.
- Juan(Alfonso's brother), Josephina(Juan's wife), Isabel(Miguel's cousin), and the twins Lupe and Pepe wait for Alfonso, Hortencia, Miguel, Esperanza, and Mama.
- Esperanza lays on the ground to try to hear the Earth's heartbeat, but she doesn't hear anything. Miguel approaches Esperanza and grabs her hand telling her that he also misses papa.
- Juan stops the truck so that Alfonso and Miguel could pick up the Melons
- Martha starts being rude to Esperanza because Esperanza's Papa was a large field owner and Martha's dad was a bandit.
