The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: Fear and Suspicion are destructive.
Skluzavka: 2
In the Monsters Are Due on Maple Street written by Rod Serling, one of the main themes is that Fear and Suspicion are destructive to the human mind . The first reason why I chose this theme is because there was a scene where Les Goodman tries to start his car but wouldn't start but when he walks away his car starts automatically. People are suspecting him now was the alien. (page 76) This scene supports the theme because the people are getting suspicious of Goodman cause he was the only one that got his car started.(page 77) The second reason why I chose this theme is because after hearing Mrs.Brand talking to Don about seeing Steve plenty of nights working some kind of ham set radio. This scene supports the theme because it really became doubtful of Steve. (page 83) The third and last reason is when Charlie mistakenly shot Pete Van Horn. People were questioning why he shot so quickly and as maybe Pete had something to tell us about. This scene supports the theme because when fear takes over the human mind, we do things without thinking straight. In conclusion, the theme that best represent the the story Monsters Are Due on Maple Street is that Fear and Suspicion are destructive to the human mind.
