I will be teaching children about the colours of South African coins and animals that appear on each coin. This coins include 20 cent, 50 cent, R1, R2, and R5.
Good day learners. Today I am going to teach you about South African coins and after we will play a play activity about coins. Are you ready?
Good day.
Yes, we are ready!
I will start by teaching children about animals that appear on each coin by using printed pictures of animals that are displayed on each coin.
On a 20 cent we have a protea flower, on a 50 cent we have a crane flower, on a R1 we have a springbok, on a R2 we have a kudu, and on a R5 we have the black wildebeest. These are the animals that appear on each coin.
I see a kudu.
I see a springbok!
I am giving learners instructions on how to play. Learners will be playing a game whereby they will choose a coin that they prefer and they will match it with the animals that are on the papers that are printed with the animal that is on the coin. This is a way to make them understand better which animal appears on each coin by using visuals.
I have a R1, it has a springbok on it.
It is a R5 with the black wildebeest!
Let's play a game whereby you will choose a coin, you will look at the animal that appear on the coin that you are holding, then you will match it with the printed picture on the paper that correspond with the picture on the coin that you are holding. Lets play!
I found a 20 cent, it has a protea flower!
I have a 50 cent, it has a crane flower.
Can you guess what colour I am holding? It is not brown, but it is bronze. 20 cent and 50 cent are bronze. Right?
Now I am teaching children about the colour of each coin.
Now, do you know the colours of each coin? R1, R2, and R5 are silver. THEY ARE SILVER. This is the colour that is shining that I am holding.
Yes, it is bronze!
It is brown.
No, I do not know.
I have a R2. It is silver, it is shining.
Learners are playing a game activity whereby I instruct them to choose any coin they want and say the name of the colour aloud they have chosen while putting it on the box.
I have a 20 cent, it is bronze
What colour is this teacher?
I chose a R1, it is silver.
Choose any coin that you want, put it on the box and say the colour name of that coin you are holding.
It is bronze Mihlali. You are holding a 50 cent.
I have two coins, silver and bronze!
My play activity is now done. Learners would have gained some knowledge about South African coins, including colours and animals appearing on each coin.
Mine is bronze!
I now know the colour silver.
Yay! Well done! We are now done.
