May 1212 - Stephen of Cloyes, a 12 year old sheperd, went to the King Philip of France claiming that he had a letter from Christ telling him to organise a crusade. The King wasn’t impressed.However, by June, he had gathered 30,000 children between 11 and 15 to go on a crusade!

As they marched south through France, they were greeted with cheers: they weren’t greedy knights or proud kings. They were simply innocent children doing God’s work.

They managed to get onboard ships for free. 2 of the 7 ships sank off Italy. All were drowned.The other 5 were captured by pirates. The children were then sold as slaves in Algeria and Egypt. There is no record of the children ever returning home.
