Mother Catherine was knee deep in new foundations. The travel was very difficult on everyone. Sitting for long hours in rickety old carriages . But somehow this hardship brought a great bond of unity among these Sisters of Mercy. Their Foundress ,now almost sixty years old, still had the heart of a child and was as playful and witty as ever.

While Catherine was happy the work was spreading, it took a tole on the young sisters who were not very strong. It was suggested to geta convent by the sea. So in 1835 a property in Kingstown, later to beknown as Dunlaoghaire was purchased and it served as a rest-home for the sisters who were feeling the effects of the hard work being done.
