  • Springsville hospital has been receiving increased admissions with high fever, coughing, headaches and shortness of breadth. 120 cases admitted last week alone.
  • This is an alarming number of cases in a short period. Alert our epidemiologists to investigate this matter.
  • Health facilities handling the outbreak
  • We have been getting an increased number of cases that seem to have similar symptoms. And the numbers are only increasing we suspect an outbreak.

  • Mixed methods research design will be used to investigate and collect data on the outbreak. This will put together the stories of people including the numbers of the newly discovered outbreak. Strategy of inquiry will be Sequential Exploratory.
  • The recent outbreak in Springsville has had the hospital manager worried with cases only rising in a short space of time.#160;
  • Qualitative Quantitative Approach
  • Qualitative data: face-to-face interview with the exposed to obtain perception and experience. Focus groups with healthcare workers to gain information on symptoms, and semi-structured interview with parents for underage children.
  • Quantitative data: Family members of exposed will be recruited to investigate the source of the outbreak and how many may be infected. Patient medical records will be accessed to compare symptoms and similarities.

  • After analyzing our data we found that 4585 cases have been identified, with 275 people hospitalized and 23 in the ICU.Based on the data 75% of the population is affected, most affected 45-55 years and 60 years and above. The results show increased prevalence of disease, we suggest vaccination as primary defense.

  • We decided to use a mixed method approach not only to quantify the data but to also understand and gain knowledge about the intervention that needs to be implemented and how the community will be inclined to follow the recommendations.#160;

  • RESEARCH METHOD
  • An outbreak has been observed in the community. At the moment cases stand at 4585 in counting and 96 recorded deaths. The main affected individuals are those 45-55 years and 60 years old.
  • Researchers suggested they go through medical records and sort variables based on categories (age, gender, comorbidities, soci-economic status) in order to identify trends within the population.#160;
