Montag has enough of Mildred and her friends just watching TV so he starts reading his book to teach them something.

Beatty finds out about Montag's books, so he confronts him at his house. To save himself and Faber, Montag kills Beatty.

Montag runs to Faber's house for help. Before leaving, Montag helps Faber to escape from the mechanical hound

Montag jumps into the river so the mechanical hound loses his scent. Once he washes up on shore, he changes into Fabers clothes.
Montag meets the drifters, a group of intellectuals that are considered outlaws in their society; they help Montag remember books so they can print them in the future.
