- Hi my name is ibn battuta, I'm a traveler, and I started to travel when I was 20 years old.

- I started to travel in 1325, when I was 20 years old. My main reason to travel was to go on a Hiajj, or a Pilrimage to Mecca, to fulfill the fifth pillar of Islam. But my traveling went on for around 29 years and I covered about 75,000 miles visiting the equivalent of 44 modern countries Which were the mostly under the governments of Muslim leaders of the world or Islam, or ''Dar al-Islam''.

- The Hajj caravan was probably several thousand people. Each person was responsible for my own animal to ride, supplies, and money for expenses. Because I was still a poor and unemployed pilgrim, I welcomed support and whatever charity came his way. A law professor "hired camels for me and gave me traveling provisions, and money in addition, saying to me, 'It will come in useful for anything of importance that you may be in need of' - may God reward." And so I finally began his hajj. The distance from Damascus to Medina was about 820 miles, and the caravan normally covered it in 45 to 60 days. Even though the caravan was protected by the power of the Mamluk army, still there were real dangers.
