- Chapter 7
- "Salva I have my gun, I will shoot any lion that comes near."
- Is every grass movement a lion? I miss Marial.
- Chapter 8
- Land! We're finally out of the nile.
- Chapter 9
- "See the rocks up there? Walk to those rocks."
- Salva was scared because of the lions and sad because of Marial's passing. It made Salva feel better that his uncle was with him to protect him and keep him safe from the lions.
- Chapter 10
- UNCLE!!!!NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
- Salva and his uncle paddled for hours into the Nile river. They finally found the island and the fishermen who lived and worked there.
- Chapter 11
- Salva's uncle set goals for him while they were walking. They would walk towards rocks or bushes in the distance to keep Salva motivated. This time they found that the rocks in the distance were people, and the people were dying of dehydration.
- Chapter 12 {6 years later}
- Men came to raid the group that Salva and his uncle were with. The men told Salva's uncle to drop his gun. They took his uncle to a tree and shot him three times. Salva and the group were devastated. The group took the day to mourn because they lost their leader.
- Salva arrived at the refugee camp in Ethiopia and saw a woman with an orange headscarf. The headscarf the woman was wearing looked just like his mom's headscarf. He chased after the woman to find out it wasn't his mom. He started to lose hope of ever finding his family.
- An orange headscarf. Is that my mom???
- Six years later, Salva was still in the refugee camp. However, the camp was going to be shut down. The military pushed the people in the camp towards the Nile river, which was filled with crocodiles.
- Oh, no! The military is pushing us towards the Nile river, which is filled with crocodiles
