- Hi my name is Isabel, and I'm from Cuba! And of course you can sit here! Why did you leave Germany?
- Hi I'm Josef and I'm from Germany! Could I sit here?

- I left Germany because Hitler was trying to kill all the Jews and he had sent my dad to a concentration camp. When my dad got out we had 14 days to leave but my dad went crazy. When we arrived in Cuba they wouldn't let us in but they let my dad in because he had jumped off the ship. So I had to step up and be the man of the family. Which was very hard because my mom couldn't really take much care of herself so I had to help her, me, and my sister.

- We left Cuba because there was a shortage and not enough materials needed to live. So my family and my best friend's family left on a homemade boat because we couldn't get a real boat. It was dangerous, my best friend's dad got swept into the water, and I dove in to save him. The boat started falling apart and sinking, so we had to have some people go into the water to have less weight on the boat. When it was my best friend Ivan's turn, he got attacked by sharks and sadly died. We had to burn him at sea. My mom had my baby brother on that boat. But we made it to the states, and we were going to get caught, but my grandpa pretended to be sinking, and the Coast Guard saved him. The rest of us made it to the States, but my grandpa gave up his chance to go to the states so we could.
