Whoever can find a new route to Asia gets lots of money and fame!
Jacques Cartier was an experienced French sailor, sailing around France and finding a route to Brazil as well. King Charles the First made an announcement that whoever could find a new route to Asia gets wealth and fame. Once Cartier heard this, he set off on his boat with his men and started his journey.

Jacques Cartier sailed a small ship with 31 men called Caravels of Galleons. It was crowded, small, and quite unhealthy, but after what seemed like forever, they reached land. Though they were here, this wasn't Asia, this was a new discovery.

Once they set foot on the land, they found the Mi'kmaq and traded with them, this was the very first trade between the French and the First Nation people. Then, he found the Iroquois people, and they invited him into the village. Cartier translated wrong, and now 'village' in Iroquois is our country name

Jacques Cartier didn't have anything to bring back to France, so he stole both of the Chief Donnaconas (leader of the Iroquois) sons, and set sail back home.
We will show you where the riches are!
Just please take us home!
Once back in France, the sons told Jacques Cartier and King Charles about the golds and riches back at their home country, and would promise to show them if they brought them back.
