- Hank wakes up and remembers nothing from before now including who or where he is
- Hank goes with Jack for the night to have a place to stay and meets Nessa
- Danny gets into a car accident with his sister in the car 
- "All I understand is that I was sleeping, and now I am awake. So why don't I remember anything that came before the sleeping" (Armistead 2).
- Hank meets Hailey and they get along really well 
- "There's a rustling inside the shack, and a girl emerges from behind a ragged patchwork quilt serving as a door. Her hair is long and black, and she has heavy makeup smeared around her pale eyes"(Armistead 22)
- Hank falls asleep by where Henry Davids Cabin is and is found by Thomas who works there
- "Icy snow had scraped the hell out of the bottom of the car the night before. Metal on ice. Sharp smell in the garage - brake fluid draining. The twirling ballerina from the music box broke off, a terrible red wave crashed before my eyes. behind my eyes, everywhere"
- Danny runs into Thomas and his dad when coming down from the mountain Henry David couldn't climb
- "When I glance up again, there's a girl standing next to me, waiting for the light to change so she can cross the street. She's pretty in a girl-jock kind of way, with reddish-blond hair in a ponytail, navy blue shorts, and a yellow T-shirt that says, Concord Lacrosse. I search her face, hoping to see something familiar there. Do I know you? Do you know me? It's not until she turns to gaze directly back at me that I realize how rudely I've been staring"(Armistead 67)
- "'The park isn't open yet,' he tells me. ' What? Oh, sorry,' My voice is thick with sleep, and my mouth feels full of marshmallows. Just the sight of this leather jacket and black wood hat makes me shiver, jealous of the warmth. I sit up, fighting grogginess, and rub the stiff place in my neck"(Armistead 82).
- "It's a tall man wearing shorts and hiking boots with black shaggy hair poking out from under a baseball cap. I can see the logo from here. The Chicago Cubs. We both stand there, frozen, allowing this stunning reality to break over us" (Armistead 302)
