Rising Action:
The story is set in a state on the south coast of the United States. The narrator and his brother live in a small farmstead.
Climax:
The narrator’s younger brother, Doodle has disabilities and health conditions that prevent him from living like most people. The narrator does not accept that his brother is born different than others.
Falling Action:
The narrator decides to teach Doodle to act like he does not have any health issues and disabilities. During the summer, the family sees a dead scarlet ibis andDoodle seems to be developing a connection with the ibis.
Resolution:
When The narrator was training Doodle for the last time, Doodle feels that he is not strong enough to keep up with his training. The narrator gets upset and leavesDoodle. Suddenly, There was a thunderstorm so the narrator starts running back to his house. However, Doodle is not able to keep up with his brother and tells his brother not to leave him alone.
The narrator decides to go back to his brother but finds him dead underneath a bush in the same position as the scarlet ibis from earlier in the story.
The narrator begins to reflect on his arrogance and carelessness that lead to his brother’s death.
