- In the dry and sunny state of Arizona, a family is discussing the importance of water conservation.
- Kids, your father and I wanted to talk to you about the current drought we're experiencing. While we're lucky to have access to water, there are many who don't.
- I can't wait to play basketball later.
- Don't worry, mom and dad. I'll do my best to do my part.
- Yes, we all need to do our part to conserve water, so that there is more clean and safe water to go around. We can try to spend less time in the shower for starters.

- The next day...
- *La, La, La* I love taking nice, long showers. *La, La, La*

- Meanwhile, outside of the bathroom, Nancy is banging on the door.
- NICK!! Did you not listen to a word mom and dad said? You've been in the shower for over an hour! Did you know that wasting water negatively impacts the environment and other people around us?
- Plus, we're late to school because of how long you are taking!

- Oh my goodness, you're right, sis. I honestly wasn't paying attention yesterday. I can only imagine how hard it must be for some families...

- The following scene depicts what was running through Nick's mind after his sister told him how harmful wasting water can be...
- I know, honey, I'm sorry. We just have to wait a little longer for daddy to get back from the store. It doesn't seem like there's any tap water coming through right now.
- Mommy, I'm getting thirsty. When can I have some more water?

- The next day in Nancy's room...
- Nick, it's okay. I'm just glad you actually listened to me. There are a lot of things you can do. For example, you can obviously limit the time you spend in the shower. You can also reduce how long you have the faucet on while brushing your teeth and washing the dishes, by turning it off when you can.
- Hey, Nancy. I was thinking a lot about what you said yesterday. I realize now that I was being selfish with how much water I was using. What can I do to reduce my water usage?
- Now, come on. Let's get to school before we're late again.

- Thanks for helping learn more about how to save water, sis. I'm glad I have a cool, older sister like you. Just don't tell anyone I said that.

- Now, students, I want to talk about a very important topic today; the current drought our town is going through. Droughts can lead to our water supply not being replenished as quickly as it normally would. They can also lead to fewer crops being grown and a decrease in air quality.
- Droughts create the need to conserve water, which is something we can all help with! So while it can be worrisome, let's all just focus on what we can do to help.

- Mom, dad, today in school we learned more about the drought and what we can do to help the environment and those around us. I think I want to be an environmental scientist when I grow up, so I can keep helping people.
