The purpose of this storyboard is to signify the courage and leadership Gandhi showed during his life to gain independence for the Indians from the British Empire. This storyboard will consist of troubles Gandhi faced, along with marches and non-violent protests he led, along with his death.
Gandhi's Salt March
After Gandhi had turned 24, he left for London to study abroad and become a lawyer. He was successful in his studies and became a lawyer. However, in one of his cases of a commercial dispute in South Africa, he saw the horrors and prejudice being faced by the Africans and he knew something needed to change. Adding on, Gandhi was also thrown off of a train by a white man for not giving up his seat. This makes lots of events unfold shortly. This promotes strong leadership and courage because if it had not been for this small act, Gandhi would have never done the things he had done to change the world as it is.
India gains independence from Britain
One trouble that Gandhi constantly faced was the unjust arrests by the British. This hindered his total cause because he was often imprisoned for a long time leading up to six years. This caused Gandhi to become passive for a bit since he couldn't raise awareness. During this time, Gandhi started to fast, so he wouldn't eat anything, and because of this, the British had to release him otherwise he would die and the British would be blamed causing an uproar.
Gandhi's death
Gandhi's most notable protest was the Salt March. The Salt March was civil disobedience that was led by Gandhi since the British were imposing higher taxes on salt for the Indians. To oppose this, Gandhi and several other protesters went to beaches and started to make their salt from the saltwater from the oceans than rather paying a tax. This march led to the arrests of over 60,000 people, including Gandhi, however, satyagraha was still being spread by others who were getting the message. This march was very important in terms of leadership and courage because it gave the Indian population an example of a good leader who was willing to lead when no one else was.
On August 15, 1947, India officially gained independence from the British Empire. This date is also the day that the partition between India and Pakistan occurred. Gandhi's role in this independence was the most important if he never stepped up as a leader and dared to fight against the British, not with violence, but with words, the world would not be the same as we know it to be right now. Along with the growing independence, it was mostly achieved due to the Quit India Movement, which was very beneficial to independence.
Unfortunately, on January 30, 1948, Gandhi was shot 4 times by Nathuram Vinayak Godse. Gandhi's death would later be heard around the world and millions of people in India would go on the street and carry his casket. Mohandas Gandhi was an important figure because of the work he has done for the world by creating peace as a leader and showing courage in his non-violent ways. Today, Gandhi has influenced lots of people in which include MLK, Nelson Mandela, Barack Obama, etc.
