  • Hmmm, there are a number of protests and marches going on, but no one is speaking up for Native American people. I wonder how I can help bring about changes for our Native American people...
  • Dennis Banks, a Native American Ojibwe was sent to prison for burglary in the late 1960s. During his time in prison he started reading books on Native Americans, which made him interested in wanting to be a part of helping out Native American people. At this same time, he was watching the protest against the Vietnam War and Civil Rights marches.

  • Thanks for attending our first American Indian Movement meeting. We must do something to stop the abuse and murder of Native Americans
  • We must protect our Native American people from all of this police brutality and racial attacks.
  • We will need to seek spiritual guidance by getting back to our roots and religious practices.  Our prayers to our creator will help guide us. Our movement is spiritual.

  • We are trying to bring about some meaningful change for the Indian community...we didn't come here to grab hold of a building. We came here to work.
  • AIM would like to present a 20 point program to the President. of the United States to help restore the future of Native Americans
  • We will have a review of the 20 point program and will give you and all of your members money to leave and travel back to your homes.

  • Since the occupation of the BIA building we still have had a number of unjustified deaths of Native Americans. Even after the Protest of the Bad Heart Bull case, there has been no justice for our people. What can we do?

  • The occupation at Wounded Knee was a final stand by Dennis Banks and others which was to say they were going to have no more abuse, no more killing and not more ripping off of land.   • It is a Good Day To Die - This doesn't mean we want to kill, but it is a good day for our people to stand up for their beliefs, even if it means we will get killed in the process

  • The 2nd Wounded Knee event ended where both sides signed an agreement that stated the US Government would examine the Native American Treaties and investigate the Richard Wilson corruption While many people were wounded and killed at the siege of Wounded Knee, AIM was credited for bringing awareness and education of all of the ugly stuff that happened to the Native American people.AIM continue to be a spiritual movement that encourages Native Americans return to their traditional roots.After the 2nd Wounded Knee, Dennis Banks continued to fight for the rights of Native American people and believed that the land was sacred. He lead many sacred runs and walks around the world with a message to protect Mother Earth for all Native American people.

  • When people are abused too long, sometimes the only thing they can do is turn to confrontational politics. AIM at least brought awareness and education of the injustices done to Native Americans. All of the pain and sacrifice was worth it.
