"How?" “Amontillado? A pipe? Impossible! And in the middle of the carnival!"
"My dear Fortunato, you are luckily met. How remarkably well you are looking to-day! But I have received a pipe of what passes for Amontillado, and I have my doubts."
While Carnival season is still around, I decided to celebrate, relax, and drink some delicious wine. But while I was enjoying my lavish time at the Carnival, I saw my good friend, Montresor. He claimed that he had a pipe of Amontillado, but who could really believe that? And then, he tried to tell me that he was going to Luchesi! Luchesi knows nothing about wine! So, I heavily insisted that I instead shall go with him to his vault, so that I could try the Amontillado instead; because I am the best at wine knowledge!

“True—true, and, indeed, I had no intention of alarming you unnecessarily—but you should use all proper caution. A draught of this Medoc will defend us from the damps. Drink." "And I to your long life."
"I drink, to the buried that repose around us.”
When me and Montresor went to his vault, Montresor gave me a flambeaux as he and I went down a long and winding staircase; and into what I suppose the location of the pipe of Amontillado. When we reached the bottom of the staircase, we walked on the damp ground of the vault, and stood there to talk. I asked where the pipe was--because it obviously wasn't there--and I will become irate if he doesn't show me that darn Amontillado right now. When he said that it's farther on, he a told me to look at the nitre. And in that moment, I felt like I really needed to cough. But even though I did, and Montresor said that I was far too sick to continue, I convinced him otherwise; I had to! Luchesi absolutely can not even have the tiniest chance to taste that very amusing Amontillado! For I am the only one who can truly taste a fantastic wine perfectly and professionally. He then told me to drink some refreshing Medoc to help; and it really did ease my cough--even though my cough is merely nothing.

"You do not comprehend?"“Then you are not of the brotherhood.”“You are not of the masons.” “You? Impossible! A mason?” “A sign.”“You jest, but let us proceed to the Amontillado."
“Not I."“How?”“Yes, yes, yes, yes.”“A mason." "Be it so."
When me and Montresor were traveling through his very extensive vaults, he had said that the Montresors were a ,"great and numerous family," and I had forgotten his arms. But I was able to remember his family crest and motto. The medoc was really soothing me as we passed through more walls of his catacomb--that contains the Amontillado that I shall soon have in my mouth for a delightful taste! But then, he stopped me by my arm as we were walking and talked about the nitre, and how it hangs like moss. And he tried to get me to turn back again . And that makes me very annoyed because, well, why can't he just understand that I, Fortunato, is the only person he should ask for tasting wine? I mean, I bet when I actually leave these extensive catacombs, he's just going to ask Luchesi about his Amontillado, "as I am engaged," with my cough. But my cough is merely nothing! And I am better at knowing the taste of every wine than that fool, Luchesi! I took the medoc and drink a draught more, to ease my cough-- and Montresor should really realize that even though I like to ease my cough, it is still merely nothing. And, ooh, that draught hit the spot. I laughed so happily, for this medoc is really soothing... I then threw the bottle upwards--a very identifiable gesture of the masons. But Montresor suprisingly did not know the gesture, as his face was in a suprised manner. I repeated the gester again casually, but he still looked flabbergasted. I asked him if he didn't get it--because he obviously looked like it. Then, he tried to act like he was a mason by saying, "yes, yes." He's not fooling anybody. I asked for a sign, to see if he was truly a mason, and he pulled out a trowel? Is he really making a joke out of the gestures of the brotherhood? Whatever. I decided that we should just forget this tomfoolery and continue towards the pipe of Amontillado that awaits me. He said, "Be it so," and I turned back around to continue walking.
