In this scene Sharelle is talking to the hardy boys Joe and Frank about how her brother Neal isn't doing so well and she wants them to help. This is important because it builds up to the main problem and is the start of the investigation.

After Fred and Joe saw a guy sneaking into to Neals room and called the police and Neal said it was just a prank they all went into his rooms and Fred and Joe were confused on what happened and Neal told them it wasn't a big deal and to stop investigating. Fred and joe started to leave but saw a strange symbol and keep investigating. This is important because they realize something is targeting Neal and they know they have to do something about it.
What's going on? He looks so scared.

After asking around a bit trying to get answers on what that symbol was in Neals room and what is means they eventually go to their dad an old detective and show him a sketch of the symbol. After a bit of pressuring to get him to talk about it he says it some curse that's been in the town for as long as he could remember and that its nothing to mess with and tom stop investigating. This is important because they are slowly getting more information about the symbol and they realize it is very dangerous symbol.
