Storyboard Text

  • Act I: Scene ii
  • Beware the Ides of March.
  • What did he say?
  • To be careful on the fifteenth of March.
  • Act II: Scene ii
  • No, it's a dream of good fortune
  • Calpurnia had a terrible dream last night.
  • Act III: Scene i
  • "Beware the Ides of March." (I : ii : ln 19)This is the first time that Caesar is warned of a potential threat to his life. He, however, simply ignores it.
  • Act IV: Scene iii
  • Thou shalt see me at Philippi.
  • "She dreamt tonight she saw my statue,/ Which, like a fountain with an hundred spouts,/ Did run pure blood, and many lusty Romans/ Came smiling and did bathe their hands in it." (II : ii : ln 76-79)Here we see that Caesar's wife is now offering warnings to him and he almost listens, until Decius manages to spin it as a good omen.
  • Act V: Scene v
  • "Et tu Bruté? Then fall, Caesar." (III : i : ln 79)And here is the payoff to the previous foreshadowing. Caesar, having ignored all warnings, has been stabbed 37 times by the conspirators. And thus ends The Tragedy of Juliu... What do you mean there's more?
  • Theme:
  • "To tell thee thou shall see me at Philippi." (IV : iii : ln 183)Following Caesar's death, he's decided to start foreshadowing as well. Here he appears in front of Brutus in his tent, warning that they shall meet again in Philippi. Quick tip, if a ghost says your going to meet them somewhere, avoid that place at all costs.
  • I will see thee at Philippi then.
  • "Farewell, good Strato-Caesar, now be still;/ I killed not thee with half so good a will." (V : v : ln 50-51)And so fall Brutus. With his death the prophecy of Caesar's ghost, while a little off on the location, has come to pass. Ending the tale of Julius Caesar and the play.
  • I've chosen these scenes and exerts to highlight the fairly obvious theme of characters being warned of their life being at risk and completely ignoring them. The lesson here kids? Take caution and pay attention to the red flags that life, or maybe a certain author, throws your way.
