PRE-1920'S
19TH AMENDMENT
EQUAL RIGHTS MOVEMENT
Before, women were seen as house maids, responsible for cleaning, cooking, and taking care of her children. They had very little rights and were forced to depend on their husbands for income. They also had very strict standards in society for how they should look, dress and behave.
WORKFORCE
The 19th amendment allowed women the right to vote and is considered one of the most impactful events in history for women. This event led to women gaining more power as well as independence.
OLYMPICS
This movement was first proposed to Congress in 1923 and stated that women should be equal to their spouse in marriage. However, many were opposed to this, under the impression that protective laws would cease to exist.
IMPACT
During World War one, many women were forced to pick up their husband's jobs and following years after it, women continued to work. Most women stayed in the workforce and others worked as conductors or even farmers. They were also allowed a better education compared to previous years.
In the year 1928, it marked the first time in history that women were able to compete in the Olympics. They were able to participate in "women's sports" such as gymnastics and figure skating.
The 1920's impacted women all over the years and even today, these turn of events will continue to have an effect on women for years to come. It allowed for women to share their voice and be seen as more than just a maid. They could voice their opinions and make more of an impact on the world.
