Part 5 Task (Stella)

Storyboard Text

  • Stella is the very shy and studious twin between her and Desiree. Later on in her life, she decides to pass for white and change her whole identity of who she really is. "She'd told Blake the same lie years ago in New Orleans: that she was an only child who'd moved to New Orleans after her parents died in an accident" (Bennett, 152). This shows that Stella would lie to her family about her past life to save herself being caught
  • Stella has likes and dislikes. She likes to pass for white but dislikes black people or people asking about her past because of her fear of getting exposed. "She'd tell Kennedy, as she'd told everyone, that she was from Opelousas, and beyond that, she would barely talk about her childhood at all. But Kennedy still asked" (Bennett 152). Showing us that Stella likes/dislikes concerns the audience how she views her life passing for white
  • Stella is a type of person who is very shy but passive and she lies about herself to her loved ones like her husband and her daughter. "He could have laughed. His shy Stella making a scene! Although maybe he shouldn't have been surprised. A woman protecting her home came from a place more primal than politics" (Bennett, 147). This shows her husband even thinks she is really shy when meeting people even around her husband too
  • What is the character like?
  • Stella described the day she left New Orleans to go with her boss, Blake Sanders who would later become her husband. " When she was with Blake, no one bothered her. The leering white men who'd tried to flirt with her at her stop now fell suddenly silent" (Bennett, 187). This shows an example that Blake is the reason Stella left New Orleans and Desiree to be with Blake
  • What do they like/dislike?
  • Stella is described as a light-skinned black woman as well as Desiree since they were born. "She looked exactly the same as when she'd left at sixteen- still light, her skin the color of sand barely wet" (Bennett, 1). This shows us how Stella looks like so the audience can get an imagine of her in their minds
  • What kind of person are they?
  • Stella loves her family, especially Kennedy as she mentions her in the story to show that she cares about her. "The newborn in her arms was perfect: milky skin, wavy blonde hair, and eyes so blue they looked violet" (Bennett, 151). This description of Kennedy shows how much Stella loves her daughter
  • Where have they been/ Where are they going?
