- Magellan has asked the Portuguese King Manuel I for funding of his exploration trip to circumnavigate the world and claim any newly discovered lands for Portugal. However, the king denies his request to explore.
- He will kill us all!

- Having his proposition denied by Portugal he goes to the kingdom of Spain and the young King Charles I was ready to make his mark on history and accepted Magellan's proposition.
- Our suffering will end.

- Although the kingdom of Spain had agreed to Magellan's terms for his voyage, they were skeptical of Magellan's loyalty to the kingdom of Spain due to his Portuguese origins. Because of this reason, 70% of the crew he went with was Spanish so there was no chance of betrayal. He left with 5 ships. Magellan commanded the lead ship Trinidad and was accompanied by four other ships: the San Antonio, the Conception, the Victoria and the Santiago.
- After arriving at Port Saint Julian in the "New World" (nowadays Argentina) Spanish captains Juan de Cartagena, Gaspar de Quesada, and Luis de Mendoza plotted a mutiny of the operation based on their belief that Magellan was leading them to their deaths.
- Magellan barely managed to stop the mutiny as the mutineers had at 1 point control of 3 of the 5 ships in the fleet. The conspirators thought that victory was inevitable.
