  • Introducing...Play Activity
  • Ghost Foot print#160; will be our activity of play. It is the perfect indoor/ outdoor type of play activity for children ranging between the ages 4-8 ( grade r to grade 1. The game itself is very enjoyable,whilst encouraging and focusing on the development of executive functioning and self regulation skills.
  • Subject Area of learning
  • This play activity will be focusing on mathematical skills for younger children. We will be looking at the identification#160; and classification of shapes, we will also introduce a bit of#160; Life Orientation by introducing road safety to the learners. Emphasising on the colours#160; red, yellow and green and thier#160; from a road safety perspectiveeaning
  • Aim#160; ad objective of the Play Activity
  • To enhance the skill of executive functioning as well as self – regulation, within younger through an educational type of play.Objectives:#160;After the play activity learners/ children should be able to: Name the four shapes (circle, square, diamond, triangle and rectangle)• Recognize#160;a circle, square, diamond, triangle and rectangle. Illustrate through sketch, their understanding of a circle, square, diamond, triangle and rectangle.• Examine different types of colors.• Explain what the colors#160;red and green mean, when learners/ children are travelling#160;on the road.
  • What will happen first?
  • Teacher will gather resources and set up the play area with the ghost footprints. Teacher will then explain and demonstrate to learners how the play activity will take place.
  • What will happen next?#160;Teacher asks children questions, allowing exploration and discovery#160;
  • Teacher will ask questions:#160; encouraging shape hunting to take place:What shape has 4 equal sides?What shape has 2 long sides and 2 short sides?What shape has two sharp sides and looks like a Kite?What do the colours red, green ad yellow mean on the road?Children will#160; explore the shapes and colour of the shapes.#160;
  • The Final step
  • Its the children's#160;turn to play:#160; The Children will play#160; the activity#160; and are given the chance and the choice#160; to explore and discover.#160; Teacher will monitor children's#160;play, guide and ask#160; questions such as :#160;What is the name of the shape you are standing on?What is the colour of the shape ?What does that colour mean?
