- This is Silvey and her family. She lives with her Ma, Ba, Dai Gor, Soong and Chuen, Day-day and Ah Yeh. Dai Gor is her older brother, Soong and Chuen are her younger sisters, and Day-day is her baby brother. Silvey and her family owns a shop and they live above it. Ah Yeh also has a bird called Mr Sing Song. Silvey also has a friend named Judy.
- One day a boy Silvey has never seen before was in their shop and was leaning on the counter. Hello, you speak english? He asked. Silvey nodded. She thought that it was a dumb question to ask. He grabbed their last pack of preserved plums and asked how much it was while putting coins on the counter. He acted as if he owned the place!
- It turns out that his name is Sun Tong but everyone calls him Sunny. His Ba is called Wong Cheok Kee. Soong and Chuen even teases Silvey about it. That guy is about 15 Dai Gor says. Sunny also comes fishing with them.
- Sunny would send Silvey letters when he left. He goes to school in Wanganui. He said that he stays with his Ba's brother and asked Silvey if he was allowed to write to her. Silvey only nodded.
