- Romeo
- "I am too sore enpierced with his shaft To soar with his light feathers, and so bound I cannot bound a pitch above dull woe" (Shakespeare 1.4.19-20).
- Near Capulet's House
- "And, to sink in it, should you burden love- Too great oppression for a tender thing" (Shakespeare 1.4.23-24).
- "Under love's heavy burden do I sink" (Shakespeare 1.4.22).
- This shows Merutio is hopeful for love. He thinks people shouldn't be stuck in love for someone who doesn't care.
- Romeo thinks his first love is destined to happen and should move forward from his first crush. He is not hopeful for love as shown by this qoute.
- These two characters contrast each other for their opinions on love. Merutio thinks finding love is important while Romeo is sulking still about being rejected. Merutio wants to push Romeo to open up.
